It is a path less travelled, let alone as quickly, a journey from FC Copenhagen to Sturm Graz, Atalanta to Manchester United, all before his 21st birthday sabong
It was the culmination of an ambition, too, for a boyhood United fan, the realisation of a dream sabong

The more coherent team were Copenhagen, the low-budget overachievers seeming to have more of a plan than the high-budget overachievers but it was tempting to think that if the Danish champions could still call upon their most valuable old boy, they would have won at Old Trafford sabong
Instead, United were victorious, aided by a telling intervention by a Dane sabong
It wasn’t Hojlund, though that is no criticism: there are times when he is the brightest of United’s front three simply a process of excellence but here, as against Galatasaray, it was a consequence of excellence sabong
But it was his compatriot Christian Eriksen who curled in a cross that Harry Maguire converted sabong
Which, along with Andre Onana’s 97th-minute penalty save from Jordan Larsson, averted indignity sabong
Which a draw would have been, given the gulf in resources sabong between the clubs sabong
Hojlund is proof of it sabong
But as his former club, who had led against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, came within a few inches of going ahead at Old Trafford, there were times when Hojlund had to stand and admire sabong
In different ways, his younger brothers Oscar, a late substitute for Copenhagen, and Emil, who did not make the bench, were spectators sabong
So was the older and more expensive sibling, limited to two touches in the first quarter of an hour, left stranded by United’s impotence sabong
Yet, with the notable exception of Maguire’s decider, everything they did right thereafter in attack revolved around him sabong
Which, in itself, may have been an indictment of others sabong
Pivotal as centre-forwards can be, United looked over-reliant on one whose name, this time last year, may have simply seemed a failed attempt to spell Haaland sabong
And the Norwegian, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to point out, was a player he advised United to sign for £4m, five years before they got Hojlund for 18 times as much sabong
But in the Hojlund derby, the forward United did get to show a sharpness sabong
He came alive in the final third in a manner to suggest that his teammates needed to give him more of the ball sabong

When Alejandro Garnacho came close, it was because Hojlund led a break sabong
When Elias Jelert was required to clear off his line, it was because Hojlund met Bruno Fernandes’ header with a deft piece of chest control sabong
It was a sign of resourcefulness, an ability to make something out of nothing sabong
Which, at times, was just as well, given his supply line sabong
Neither winger is a crosser sabong
Antony, as even those who have spent decades stranded on tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean know, will try and cut inside and shoot with his left foot sabong
Rashford, too, has designs on being more of a scorer than a supplier sabong
Hojlund spent some of the first half acting as the creator for McTominay, the ungainly auxiliary No 10 sabong
But United had more sabong footballing craft with Eriksen on sabong
He is the technician while Hojlund’s physical attributes form part of his appeal sabong
He has got a wiry strength sabong
He is a rangy runner with a turn of pace sabong
He has an eager willingness that stands him in good stead sabong
The raw materials are there sabong
Yet the concern is that too few signings have improved at United in the last decade; it is just a coincidence of negotiating that Hojlund’s fee is very similar to Jadon Sancho’s but the exiled winger is proof United’s best-laid plans can go wrong sabong

For both his first and current clubs, he has been more prolific in Europe sabong
He never scored in the Danish Superliga sabong
He has not struck in the Premier League, either: outscored by Diogo Dalot on domestic duty, his goals have been confined to Europe sabong
Yet he kicked off as the Champions League’s joint top scorer, the product of a strike against Bayern and a brace against Galatasaray sabong
Even as he drew a blank against Copenhagen, Hojlund added to the impression that he belongs on this stage sabong
But as United laboured to victory, they scarcely offered compelling evidence they will still be in the Champions League after Christmas sabong

World Rugby have insisted their new plans for a “Nations Championship or Cup” are “for the many, not the few” despite critics suggesting that it will block the progress of emerging nations sabong
The sport’s governing body have unveiled a new global calendar that will include the creation of a new, two-tier competition in 2026 sabong
The top tier will include the four Rugby Championship teams, the Six Nations and two more sides yet to be confirmed but expected to be Japan and Fiji sabong
Below this will sit a second tier of a further 12 teams, with the earliest that one of those dozen could feature in the top tier being 2032 sabong
And World Rugby insist that the “certainty and opportunity” that regular fixtures against peers will provide is where the real opportunities for development exist sabong
“If rugby is to become a truly global sport, we simply have to make it more relevant and more accessible to more people around the world,” said Bill Beaumont, chairman of World Rugby sabong

”Alan Gilpin, chief executive, added: “There is more certainty for more nations as a result of today’s decisions than there has ever been sabong
It is not perfect sabong
Would we all like relegation and promotion and pathways in these competitions to start sooner in some cases than they are? Absolutely sabong
“But those compromises allow for that type of pathway, that type of relegation to take place in the foreseeable future, rather than not in the foreseeable future, which is what the status quo provides sabong
Is it perfect? Probably not sabong
Is it a hell of a lot sabong better than the current situation? Absolutely sabong
”The revamped calendar will not include a “Nations Championship” in years in which a men’s World Cup or British & Irish Lions tour will occur, in theory providing room for increased “crossover” fixtures sabong
World Rugby could not provide any clarity on what these fixtures will be, and admitted that no agreements had yet been put in place, though insisted that there will be a 50 per cent aggregate increase sabong
That would mean a rise from 18 to 27 games for the 12 teams, though it is unclear how these fixtures will be allocated or arranged sabong
Gilpin said: “I think what we say to the teams – Portugal, Chile, others that have had fantastic tournaments here – is this competition structure from 2026 will provide them with guaranteed certain schedules, particularly against their peers, which is actually the type of teams they need to be playing against, in July and November on an annual basis sabong

So, 50 per cent more guaranteed crossover fixtures in those other years than is currently the case, in addition to guaranteed fixtures against their peers that they don’t currently have sabong
“This is about looking at other years – traditionally what we have called ‘Lions years’ and the Rugby World Cup years – and populating those periods with fixtures that allow those possibilities and that the high-performance unions agreeing that some of their Rugby World Cup warm-up matches have to be against those other teams sabong
”Bill Sweeney, chief executive of England’s Rugby sabong Football Union (RFU), was later unclear on whether England would be open to touring or playing fixtures against emerging nations sabong
He did, however, confirm that talks were underway over a fixture sabong between a resurrected England ‘A’ and Portugal after a standout tournament for Os Lobos sabong
“We’re all interested in growing the game globally,” Sweeney explained sabong
“We saw Portugal here and Chile, they were great competitors sabong
So we’re fully supportive of that sabong
I think there’s a number of factors here that people should feel encouraged about in terms of emerging nations sabong
